Today, Sen. Lynda Wilson, R-Vancouver, began her first term as senator for the 17th Legislative District with the commencement of the 2017 legislative session. As the gavel fell to open proceedings, she expressed optimism about making progress in the following weeks.
“It is a deep privilege to serve the people of the 17th District in Olympia,” said Wilson. “I decided to take on this challenge because I believe we have many opportunities for positive reforms. Creating jobs, reducing regulations and protecting our freedoms from big government are still my first and foremost priorities and I’ll be working closely with the people of my community to make these principles a reality.”
Wilson was appointed to serve as chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee. She will also serve on the Commerce, Labor and Sports Committee, Law and Justice Committee and Transportation Committee. Wilson expects to continue her work bringing accountability to state agencies, reducing unnecessary regulations and protecting individual freedoms. She plans to use her experience as a small business owner to shed light on how government regulations affect the lives of those in her community.
“It’s important that the real effects of laws and regulations on all people across the state are heard and understood,” said Wilson. “I will be a voice for accountability in government and work hard to take the burden of taxes and new regulations off hard-working taxpayers.”
Wilson previously served in the House of Representatives where she was first elected in 2014.
