Rep. Lynda Wilson to serve as ranking Republican on the House Community Development, Housing and Tribal Affairs Committee

Rep. Lynda Wilson, R-Vancouver, has been appointed as the Ranking Member of the Community Development, Housing, and Tribal Affairs Committee by House Republican Leader Dan Kristiansen.

“I am humbled and honored to have been chosen as the Ranking Republican on this committee” said Wilson. “While I have enjoyed my time on the Transportation Committee, I feel this new assignment will be a good place to address some of the prevalent issues facing the 17^th District, such as homelessness and the chronic shortage of affordable housing.”

A business owner, deeply involved with the building industry at the state and local level, Wilson remarked “Housing issues are a natural interest for me.”

As a freshman legislator, starting the second year of her first term, Wilson’s appointment as a ranking member speaks to the confidence caucus leadership has in her abilities. “While it’s rare for a freshman lawmaker to be named a ranking member on a committee, Lynda has demonstrated that she’s ready for this new leadership role,” said Rep. Kristiansen. “The Community Development, Housing and Tribal Affairs Committee deals with important issues that have a direct impact on communities across our state. Lynda has deep roots in her community and has worked on many of these issues at the local level. I think her perspective and willingness to address challenges head on will be a great fit for the committee.”

Community involvement has always been important to Wilson. “I’ve been working with groups such as the Clark County Veterans Court Board for years, so I am excited this committee will allow me to influence veteran’s issues as well.” she said. “The government-to-government relationship with tribes is also important and I’m looking forward to fostering those relationships.” Wilson continued.

Wilson will maintain her role on the Public Safety Committee. “There are a lot of important issues we may take up next session – from firearms safety, to use of force by law enforcement. I’m well-prepared to tackle these issues in the months to come.”

The 2016 session starts January 11 and is scheduled to last 60 days.

The House Community Development, Housing and Tribal Affairs Committee considers issues relating to community development, veterans, tourism and the government-to-government relationship of the state and Indian tribes. The committee also considers bills relating to housing, including the accessibility and affordability of housing, state assistance to low-income housing, housing authorities and the Housing Finance Commission.
