Bill sponsored by Rep. Lynda Wilson signed into law

Rep. Lynda Wilson, R-Vancouver, had her first bill signed into law by Gov. Jay Inslee today. Under the new law, individuals who make an appointment to inspect a campaign or a candidate’s account books would need to present photo identification at the time of the appointment.

“I am proud that my first bill signed into law protects public disclosure and enhances personal privacy and security,” said Wilson. “Often, campaign treasurers are friends or family members – volunteers – who maintain these account books from their home. I fully support the disclosure process, but we should also make sure the people coming to inspect the records are who they say they are, and that we know who we are allowing into our homes. In this day and age, we should always be looking for ways to protect people’s privacy, especially when it comes to finances and the sensitive information contained in these account books. I believe this bill proves we can support public disclosure while protecting personal privacy and safety.”

House Bill 1819 passed the Legislature with strong bipartisan support and will take effect 90 days after the 2015 regular session adjourns.

The 2015 regular legislative session is scheduled to end April 26.
