OLYMPIA – In one of the most colorful moves ever made by state legislators, quite literally, Gov. Jay Inslee has signed a bill expanding the clothing safety requirements for hunters to include fluorescent pink.
Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 5148 (ESSB-5148) added the new hue to the longstanding, and only other allowable wardrobe choice for hunters, bright orange.
“Orange will always be the classic safety color, but I think our state’s hunters can appreciate something new and different – and because fluorescent pink doesn’t blend in with anything else in the forest or field, it also offers the excellent visibility we need for safety,” said Sen. Lynda Wilson, R-Vancouver and prime sponsor of ESSB-5148.
